Bag count for one cubic yard
The table uses the yield values in QUIKRETE Concrete Mix Product Data Sheet No. 1101. It is a worked example for that named product, not a universal conversion for every concrete mix or market. The sheet says the 90 lb package is regionally available.
| Package size | Listed mixed yield per bag | Bags for 1 yd³ |
|---|---|---|
| 40 lb (18.1 kg) | 0.30 ft³ (8.5 L) | 90 |
| 50 lb (22.6 kg) | 0.375 ft³ (10.6 L) | 72 |
| 60 lb (27.2 kg) | 0.45 ft³ (12.7 L) | 60 |
| 80 lb (36.2 kg) | 0.60 ft³ (17 L) | 45 |
| 90 lb (40.8 kg) | 0.675 ft³ (19.1 L) | 40 |
How to calculate bags for your product
Start with the concrete volume in cubic feet, then divide by the mixed yield printed for one bag. Round the result up to a whole bag. One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet, so a product yielding 0.60 ft³ per bag gives 27 ÷ 0.60 = 45 bags.
For metric work, 1 yd³ is about 0.7646 m³. Convert both the project volume and the package's stated yield to the same unit before dividing. Bag weight alone does not tell you the mixed yield.

Keep any extra allowance separate
The counts above fill exactly one cubic yard by the listed approximate yields. A project may need a different order quantity because of measurement variation, uneven forms, or supplier guidance. If you choose an allowance, add it to the volume before dividing by yield; do not treat one percentage as right for every site.
For illustration only, adding a chosen 10% to one cubic yard gives 29.7 ft³. At 0.60 ft³ per bag, 29.7 ÷ 0.60 = 49.5, which rounds up to 50 bags. Confirm measurements and the current product data before ordering.
